Held together with rope

It's been a while since I posted, thought summer might be a good time to start again.
I've been going to a shop called Prick Your Finger in Bethnal Green on Thursdays for a few months, and amongst other things, they've taught me to spin yarn, and now they've inadvertently helped fix my bed! I helped make some Jute cord the other day (http://www.prickyourfinger.com/blog/2011/06/money-for-old-rope/) and got to take home a sample, and when the leg on my bed kept falling off I put two and two together and did a ropey quick fix.

The new rope reminds me of old rope - stuff i worked with on Foundation!

(Pur)chase

The view from my window.
The sign flickers on and off, showing only the last part of the word: chase.
There could be something meaningful in the combination of Purchase and Chase ( There's a Bruce Nauman reference in here somewhere)
But I mainly filmed it because I liked the aesthetic of it. I am becoming more interested in everyday occurrences that feature repetition. My previous works contain references to repetition also. Repetition is the subtext.

Stills and test shots

Whilst filming and setting up 'Reveal' I used my Olympus OM-2 to take some stills and test shots whilst I was set up in a project room.
The film of my performance of Reveal is 46 mins long, and the fabric is not yet finished being deconstructed, It's nice to leave something to the imagination, but I also imagine I will complete it one day.

To capture a sense of movement, I used a continuous shutter setting on my camera. There were at least 30 frames in the sequence, but this .gif only has 7 of those, so I move in leaps and bounds. Test for performance set up and positioning.

I've been so damn sure, that I've been here before

I have been incredibly slow to upload work, and there's a bit of a backlog. These are photos from the very first time I did a public performance of my work, it was long duration; I worked a few hours each day for three days. The basic premise was to slowly reveal myself to a viewer entering into the gallery space by removing weft threads one by one from a piece of muslin cloth. I suspended the fabric away from the wall so that it was more of a division of the space by itself, and so that the experience of the gallery space was altered by an object to be moved around, but also seen through.

Couldn't sleep
